Athletics fitness advice

What you do to get fit for athletics will depend entirely on what events you are targeting. The needs are very different for sprinters and 1500 metres runners, shot putters and high jumpers.

Indeed, about the only real crossover is between long jumpers and sprinters, who both need to develop explosive power in the lower limbs.

One need all athletes share is a strong core - the core links the limbs together, so ultimately you will only be as strong as your core permits.
