Fitness instructor opportunities

The choice of fitness instructor opportunities has varied over the years, but there has recently been a big increase in the number of gyms and fitness centers in the UK, which has in turn increased demand for trainers.

If you look around there are a variety of places to look for work. These include:

  • Gyms
  • Health clubs
  • Leisure centers
  • Sports halls
There are opportunities in both the public and the private sector, plus for the more adventurous it's possible to find positions abroad, or working on a cruise ship for example.

Although there are a range of positions available, there is also competition for good jobs. That means the right qualifications are essential.

The key requirements are:
  • You must be over 18
  • You must hold a current first aid and CPR certificate
  • You must obtain a level 2 REPs qualification
If you are serious about developing a career in this field, then you can take further training which would enable you to progress to senior instructor positions, or even on to a management position. Other alternatives include training other instructors or coaching a particular sport.

The best place to look for job openings is the internet - there are plenty of sites which list job vacancies in this area.
