Personal Training Jobs

There aren't any formal educational requirements for fitness instructors. Trainers obtain specialised certification to work within their chosen field. Certification is typically valid for approximately two years, after which re-certification is required. Re-certification can be obtained through continuing education classes. Training typically consists of a combination of practical and text-based work. Most fitness instructors are also required to have obtained certification in first aid. Further training may include public speaking skills, injury prevention, as well as organisational and planning skills, in order to acquire the skills necessary to successfully lead a class.

Should your interest lie in a career with a focus towards rehabilitation fitness, such as sports medicine or physiotherapy, you will need to enrol in the appropriate degree program. Most physiotherapy programs commence with a two to three year course leading into an honours bachelor of science degree program. For most, a degree or diploma attained from an accredited institution will also be a necessary requirement for business related roles within the fitness industry, such as management, sales, or marketing.

Beyond certification, those wanting careers in the fitness industry can ensure their success by having a well-rounded knowledge of current trends, and maintaining excellent health and physical fitness due to the nature of the job. Whatever your choice of fitness career, be assured that beyond securing your financial success you are entering a rewarding and exciting field that will allow you to have fun while ensuring that others lead a healthier lifestyle.
